Today we spent the day moving furniture around and cleaning behind it and rearranging it again until we liked the way it looked. It inspired me to clean out some other corners and brighten them up. Some things to the trash, some to donate or give away, some moved to new locations in the house.

Spring cleaning is favorite metaphor of mine. It’s another chance to lighten the load of stuff I tend to drag along with me as I go through life.

About Sharon

Like anyone who lives long enough, I have experienced great loss and survived. I am convinced that my survival depends on my own participation in creating the reality I am living in, and I am determined to be a thoughtful and active participant/creator. These writings are my way of documenting that creation. As the song goes, "I will survive!" I chose the title Staying Vertical because I find that surviving isn't just staying on my feet physically. Keeping my thoughts and emotions on the vertical plane keeps me alive and moving forward. Thanks for joining me!

Dear friend, I hope your foot is better. I fell too, a couple years ago, for what seemed to be no reason. It was an eye-opener for me. Luckily I had only an avulsion fracture in my foot but it took months to completely heal. And I used to do so in days or a week. Ah, aging. I also enjoyed the poem on Dying. After I lost my mom (dad died seven years prior), I felt orphaned and mortality closed in. It never leaves me now.

But on a lighter note! Congratulations, Sharon. From the sabbatical year to this blog, you have always been a light and inspiration. So I’ve nominated you for the Sunshine Award. I hope you accept.
